Has the Super Bowl Ever Been on Valentine’s Day?

The short answer: look ahead to 2027

CBS Sports reports that 2027 will be the first Valentine’s Day Super Bowl. The official SoFi Stadium listing schedules Super Bowl LXI for Sunday, February 14, 2027, in Inglewood, California. That is the calendar overlap behind our Love & Game Day at Sea collection.

There are no previous Super Bowls played on February 14 to use as Valentine’s game-day examples. It would be misleading to describe couples celebrating earlier Valentine’s Day Super Bowls or to present future 2027 cruise stories as events that have already happened. We can draw inspiration from the season without inventing its history.

The useful travel question is what this date means for your own plans. You can celebrate both occasions on one trip, spread them across different evenings or decide that the voyage itself is your Valentine’s gift. Agreeing on that choice matters more than trying to make one Sunday satisfy every expectation.

Recent Super Bowls close to Valentine’s Day

The NFL archive organizes games by season: the 2021 season’s championship was played in 2022, and the 2022 season’s championship in 2023. That difference between the season label and the calendar year can cause confusion when checking old schedules.

Nearby dates still offer an idea for couples: celebrations do not have to compete for the same hour. A football evening and a romantic dinner can each get their own space during a short cruise. That is a planning suggestion, not a claim about what passengers did on those historical dates.

Make room for the relationship and the game

Start by asking what matters to each person. Is it seeing the whole game, enjoying the halftime conversation, taking a port excursion or having an unrushed dinner? Name the priorities without dismissing the other person’s answer. Then build a schedule with room for both, where possible.

If the exact game broadcast is essential, get voyage-specific confirmation from the cruise line before booking. A land-based broadcaster’s announcement does not establish onboard viewing rights or shipboard availability. No sailing in our researched collection has confirmed Super Bowl coverage.

If romance is the priority, an earlier departure can give you time to settle in before February 14. A sea day offers a different rhythm from a port day; neither is automatically better for every couple. A Bimini beach visit might be your perfect date, while another couple would rather have no excursion clock to watch.

Consider celebrating with dinner the night before or after. Make the decision together so it feels intentional. You can also plan a small moment on the day itself—a walk, breakfast or a handwritten note—without requiring the whole evening to follow a script.

Turn the calendar into a practical cruise shortlist

Our collection includes 4-, 5- and 6-night sailings departing February 11–14, 2027. Some ships are already underway on February 14; others board that day. The cruise finder labels the distinction and lets you filter by port, line, ship, length and itinerary. Prices shown there are dated research, with a current quote needed before booking.

Use the Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl cruise guide to compare three starting points. For the relationship side of the trip, read seven ways to reconnect on a cruise. Neither football nor a vacation has to carry the whole relationship; a thoughtful plan can simply give you more time to enjoy each other.
